'The Fame' named Billboard's 12th greatest album of all time

Billboard magazine announced today its first-ever Greatest of All Time chart and Lady Gaga's debut album The Fame ranks at number 12!

According to Billboard.com, albums are ranked "based on an inverse point system, with weeks at number one earning the greatest value and weeks at lower rungs earning the least; due to changes in chart methodology over the years, eras are weighted differently to account for chart turnover rates over various periods."

Atop the list is Adele's blockbuster 21, which spent 78 weeks in the top 10 and has not left the Billboard 200 chart since its release. Take a look at the rest of the top twelve below...

1. 21 - Adele
2. The Sound of Music - Soundtrack
3. Thriller - Michael Jackson
4. Fearless - Taylor Swift
5. Born in the U.S.A. - Bruce Springsteen
6. Ropin' the Wind - Garth Brooks
7. Jagged Little Pill - Alanis Morrissette
8. Doctor Zhivago - Sountrack
9. All the Right Reasons - Nickelback
10. Tapestry - Carol King
11. Whitney Houston - Whitney Houston
12. The Fame - Lady Gaga

The Fame was released in October 2008. The album debuted at number seventeen on the Billboard 200 with just 24,000 copies sold in its first week, and went on to spend over a hundred weeks on the chart and become one of the best-selling albums of all time.
