Enjoy our gallery of the most unforgettable “Applause” moments below… In July 2013, Lady Gaga posted a photograph of herself painting on a canvas that read “Applause” along with a caption reading “26 days”. On August 2, Lady Gaga released the cover art for “Applause,” shot by Inez and Vinoodh. The Pierrot-esque face with rainbow of makeup went on to become one of Gaga’s most iconic looks to date. In the midst of a potential leak of “Applause,” Lady Gaga took to her Twitter account to declare a “pop music emergency.” She wrote: “A pop music emergency is underway. My new single comes out today!” On August 12th, Lady Gaga released “Applause” to iTunes and radio stations worldwide. The song was met with praise from fans and critics alike. On the day of the single release, Lady Gaga wore the clown make up as she greeted fans and posed for pictures. She told fans: “I got very emotional during the video shoot and I smeared the makeup down my face to look like tears. It became one of our favourite scenes in the video and so we used it for the ‘Applause’ cover and I decided today to wear the makeup.” On August 15th, Lady Gaga premiered the official lyric video for “Applause,” filmed by the Haus of Gaga.
