that fits into "look how amazing I am" tho

Rap music is just people boasting and being cocky and I dislike it immensely

I do actually get where you're coming from but

"I live for the applause, live for the way that you cheer and scream for me" :awkney: and besides:

"I see no changes, wake up in the morning and I ask myself,

'Is life worth living? Should I blast myself?',

I'm tired of bein' poor and even worse I'm black,

My stomach hurts so I'm lookin' for a purse to snatch"

from 'Changes' by 2Pac. No cockiness there, just realness.

Many rappers are boastful but then humble themselves by talking about their pasts, how they were brought up, where they came from, how hard they worked and the things they saw on their way to the top.

"Yeah I talk about my mom, but shoutout to my dad,

Would drive me to school every single chance he had,

Tell me 'bout the crazy girls and all about his past,

And gave me the talks that made me to a man.

Not everybody got a dad but they got a Uncle Sam,

And he ain't came around till I made a 100 grand,

Coming from Detroit where everybody say "whaddup doe?",

Horror movie *****, cause everybody there cut throat"

from 'Fire' by Big Sean, the perfect mix of proud and humble.

I guess what I'm saying is that Lil Wayne isn't a representation of rap music, which is probably what you picture when someone brings up rap music. If anything, Lil Wayne is the laughing stock of the rap music world :laughga:

EDIT: also, consider that rap is the music of the underdog. A long time ago it was shocking to hear black people be proud of who they were and for them to stand up and say "WE'RE HERE, WE'RE PROUD AND WE CAN ACHIEVE WHAT WE WANT" was always a very powerful thing. It still is.

Yeah the "started from the bottom now we here" sorta thing? Still fits in with my summary imo

I do give it a chance though, if people link me to rap music I'll give it a listen
