Valextra 58
Despite its poor critical reception, The Boy Next Door is an undeniable hit. The cheesy erotic-thriller earned $5.7 million when it debuted on Friday and finished with $15 million for the weekend. Now, that might not seem like a lot, but The Boy Next Door was made on a micro-budget of $4 million, meaning that it only took three days to almost quadruple its budget. It also destroyed Johnny Depp and Gwyneth Paltrow‘s Mortdecai, which tanked with just $4.1 million. The Boy Next Door is already predicted to earn up to $38 million in the U.S. alone, which makes it an enormous success in relation to how little it cost to make. http://youtu.be/YrE97rY7ZKo Producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas opened up to Deadline about the frugal approach that was taken to make the movie. “We loved the idea of investing in ourselves and taking no money upfront. Our attitude was, ‘Let’s put on a show.’ We all literally shared Jennifer’s trailer. We rehearsed at her house and she pulled costumes out of her closet. All the money was up on the screen and the idea of becoming a participant was the idea we embraced. We shot the film in 23 days.†Considering that JLo was one of the film’s producers, she’s probably going to take home a huge chunk of change from the total gross. This should be a lesson to everybody who ever counted JLo out at one point or another. Just when you think that she’s so washed-up that she can’t possibly ever have another hit single or movie again, somehow she stages a massive comeback and proves everybody wrong! http://popdust.com/2015/01/26/jennifer-lopez-the-box-next-door-box-office/
