ARTPOP's sales were not that bad.

I know this is about the kajillionth thread about ARTPOP's sales, but I just thought about this.

ARTPOP sale's were obviously soft, and that's evident. But the sales weren't too terrible. The album was certified 2x platinum (if memory serves me correct),so sales couldn't be that pitiful.

Yes,I know that The Fame,Fame Monster, and Born This Way had stronger sales, but ARTPOP was definitely not a flop, like many haters constitute it. There are definitely albums by artists bigger than Gaga that have had way worse albums sales. Look at Michael Jackson's Invincible album. It was a masterpiece, but it only sold like two million when he was alive. Obviously, sales of all Michael albums increased by the time he announced This Is It and his passing, but keep in mind that an artist of his stature couldn't even pull in extreme album sales.

Exactly! It sold extremely well considering the state the music industry is in right now. Only compared to something massive like Born This Way is it considered a 'flop'

Born This Way > Joanne > The Fame Monster > The Fame > ARTPOP

Amen. It's also like comparing Michael's Thriller to Invincible, because Thriller is still the biggest selling album of all time.

Invicible sold 2m in US only, ARTPOP sold 700k in US.

Invincible sold 13m WW and ARTPOP 2m

So in US only Invicible sold as much ARTPOP worldwide.

Honestly when somebody dissmisses ARTPOP as a flop I assume they're honestly very stupid and will believe anything somebody tells them. There are some obvious flaws with ARTPOP, it's sales aren't one of them. It didn't do THAT badly.

Yes. AP's sales are not that bad, considering it had only one decent top five hit. However, it was not certified as 2x-platinum in any country it was released, at least to my knowledge. According to IFPI and Vivendi (UMG's parent company), ARTPOP moved 2.3M units worldwide in 2013.  If you meant about worldwide sales, there's no certification process for it. Certifications only apply per country. In the US, w/c is the biggest music market in the world, it has yet to be certified as platinum since its sales have been stagnant at 730K.

Michael Jackson's Invincible (2001), while branded as a commercial 'flop' in comparison to his other major studio albums, moved over 10 million units worldwide by 2009 (i.e. it sold more than 2 million copies when he was still alive). The album was certified as 2x platinum in the US by January 2002 after moving 2 million copies.

If you take a look at the list of the best selling albums in the US in 2014, you'll probably be pleasantly surprised to find out that ARTPOP total sales of 735,000 copies would correspond to the 4th best selling album of the year (GHOST STORIES by Coldplay with 732,000)

The ARTPOP sales disaster is a myth which was intentionally created by some media and served to the pop music fandom and a part of the general public. I can't say who were behind the campaign to drag ARTPOP down, but it's clearly someone who had an agenda.

It's surely sad for some fans to see her record where she put so much effort being her only solo studio album to not reach platinum in the USA, but people tend to forget that Gaga started ARTPOP campaign after almost 2 years of media silence in the USA and a cancelled tour which prevented her from connecting with the audience to hype the release. Besides, the Troy Carter conflict took place in the middle of 2013, so she basically released the most darling album to herself without any proper management.

But it seems the dark days are behind, and Gaga is now with a team that totally loves her and cherishes her talent and cares about her, so I am looking forward to her new creative journey with her next album!

Preach.

ARTPOP's figures was the same as normal album figures these days and her competitors e.g. PRISM and Bangerz sales are not far ahead. Does that mean Gaga's rough patch still has the sales of her rivals who are on top of their game? :emma:

If anything, haters are comparing the sales to her previous albums. You know what haters are like - they pluck random crap out of nowhere and use it against the artist they are conspiring against.

ARTPOP's sales were fine.

In my messy era.

That's all haters summarized in two sentences.

ARTPOP solds 3 035 000 WW :applause:

2,300,000 in 2013 + 735 000 in 2014

Where did you get the 735k? We've yet to know the official WW sales of ARTPOP for this year, and we'd only know that by next year once both the reports of IFPI (for all labels) and Vivendi (for all labels under the UMG umbrella) are released (assuming it'd make the cut of the top 10 best-selling albums of 2014). Their numbers shouldn't be confused with the numbers being released weekly by independent sites such as MediaTraffic or Musicharts since all of their numbers differ.
