My artrave dublin experience (17th Oct)

I wanted to write about the Dublin artrave because to be honest, it was one of the best ones I went to!

So after reading the APZ description on the ticketmaster website, I decided it was likely there would be no catwalks at the show since it said that APZ ticketholders would get a front row seat in section C. Since I was fairly sure there would be no catwalks, I knew I wanted to be as close to the stage as possible, so I bought a LMZ ticket for the show.

After umminh and ahhing over what time to go queue, I made my way there just after 9am and arrived in the line about 9:45am. I was #8 so I knew I'd get front row. Got talking to all the others in the queue who were all lovely. A few more people cam by 11am, but the line was still not very long. Got talking to 2 of the "newcomers" to the queue and we all decided to go look for a toilet/food. The only place to get food was at the Costa (like Starbucks) in the cinemas next to the arena, so we ended up sitting and talking for about an hour (we didn't realise it was that long!), then we quickly went to the toilet and then went back to the queue. It was quite windy in the queue and it did rain a little in the afternoon, but everyone was chatting and generally in a good mood. The people who were #3 & 4 in the queue were gone for a very long time (like 5-6hrs), and they were not even back when we started to get checked in and given our wrist bands. they finally came back at about 5:15pm and the local security told them that because they hadn't been there all afternoon, they had to go to the back of the queue (warning for other people queueing - don't leave the queue for looooooooooooooong periods of time - they are OK if you go to the loo and get some food, but not for hours). Obviously, they were upset, and they tried talking to the guy, and then Bruno came out and they tried talking to him too, but in the end, they had to go to the back of the LMZ queue. Oh, speaking of Bruno, he came out around 10am to talk to us and I asked if there were gonna be catwalks and he said no, so we all knew what we were in for and all knew we wanted front row. When he came out, I called out for him to entertain us, so he did some little dance and said he was doing bad Romance (haha umm no)...but he is genuinely a nice guy, willing to have a joke and fair - be nice to him and he'll be nice to you. He's been doing security for 5 years with Gaga so he knows a lot of the fans (I even saw him in Birmingham before the show and he said hi to me, but I don't know if he remembered me from Sydney or he was just being nice hehe).

So finally at about 6:10pm we were lead into the venue after being given our merch packs and being made to line up in 2's outside (the venue is weird/small and has no "holding area" inside, so we had to stay waiting outside the whole time.....there isn't even a cloackroom in the venue, so we could take out backpacks in. We were slowly lead onto the floor, but lined up still in 2's at the back of the GA area. The inside of the arena was well "different" is a nice way of putting it - the GA floor is the weirdest shape I have seen, and the merch stands and food places were on the GA floor.....like right at the back around the wall, but there was no foyer or anything, you could go and buy merch/drinks/food directly on the GA floor. So we stayed at the back for 5-10mins while security sorted everything out, and then we were lead - slowly and in 2's to the barrier by the stage and then we were told we could stand where ever we liked. I ended up a little right of centre, but it was good because the piano was on the right. Then the long and foot killing wait began. It was only about 6:20pm when we got to our spots, so we still had an hour 10mins till Breedlove even came on, so we just chatted, and became "best friends" with the people behind us. lol Thankfully the pushing to be at the front was not bad at all and I did not get squashed on the barrier at all during the night!

Finally Breedlove came on at 7:30pm. He sings 5 songs that can only be described as a combination of Boyband and glam rock. It was not at all what I was expecting. I had seen him in Birmingham, so knew what to expect, but in Birmingham I was totally not expecting his music to be like that.

Lady Starlight cam out right after Breedlove finished. Her set appears to have been shortened to about 30mins now (as opposed to the 50 odd mins it was in the US) because at both Birmingham and Dublin it was only about 30mins. It's still the same sort of dj set she has been doing all tour though.

Then we had about 20mins of trap type music (same music as usual which I actually really like and still want to know what it is so I can download it....if anyone knows any of the tracks, please tell me).

Finally, the curtain dropped and the crowd went crazy. Gaga made her usual entrance on to the stage (trying not to spoil too much in case there are some brave few who have not seen any vids because they are going to some of the last shows left). Gaga did a lot of the show fairly front and centre since there weren't the catwalks, but she did move to each side too. I can't even count the number of times we made eye contact. It was unbelievable! I made more eye contact with her last night than even during my APZ show! At one point in the first few songs (I don't remember which now), she was just looking at me and like singing to me...I was singing right back to her. Just before Born This Way, she picked up the little doll that the #2 in the LMZ line had thrown on stage. The girl was from New York. gaga read her letter and asked her to go back stage. Then she got up from the piano and came to stand right in front of me and she asked who was from Ireland...so I didn't scream or put my hands up since I'm not. Then she chose the three people standing next to me to go backstage too....and they were numbers 5, 6 and 7 in the LMZ queue and all the people who got to go backstage I had been talking to most of the day and they were all really nice, and I'm so happy that they got to meet her (well especially the three ladies since they had never met her before). Also, gaga pulled on of the three up on stage to sit with her during Born This Way, so I videoed it for them. :) I wasn't even upset that I didn't get picked since I had my meet n greet and I'd rather someone who hasn't met her get to.

Oh I forgot to say - so many people were fainting, or close to fainting at the show. The security guards between the barrier and the stage were bringing around little cups of water for free for everyone in the front few rows because it was quite hot. Also, the guy who was #1 in the LMZ queue and had been there since 3am in the morning got ill right at the end of Starlight's set, so security took him away (to the medical room I guess) and I never saw him again. I don't even know if he got to watch the show or not - he certainly never made it back to the front row if he did get to watch it. Moral being, if you are going to queue, please drink alot at least in the morning and do eat or else you are likely to be "down for the count" by the time the show starts.

So back to the show, during Sexxx Dreams, I was doing the choreography and Gaga was watching me, and at one point she was pointing at me while singing because I was doing the choreo. lol *spolier alert* She did sing Bang Bang again, so I'm guessing that's become part of the setlist now. :) At the start of Swine, when she does her little speech about letting all your anger out through the music etc, she was standing right in front of me and looking at me, so before she finished her speech, I did the "Swine nose" (with my finger to my nose like she does) and she did it back to me and made a fierce looking face. hehe

Then....the encore...she came out for Gypsy, and it suddenly hit me - this is the last song at the last of my 13 artraves, and I started bawling my eyes out. I just felt so emotional.....which of course was the same time that the lady who had been filming the show in front of us (part of Gaga's crew, she was between the barrier and the stage) decided to film the crowd....and me. I saw myself on the screen for a second, and I must have looked a mess. Right at the end of the song, gaga was standing centre stage again and even she was crying that the show was over.

It was honestly one of the best experiences and I am so glad I got to experience the show without the catwalks and that that show was my final one because it was the best way to end it for me.

I did take pics, but don't have time to post right now, so may post when I get back to Australia in a couple of days if people are interested.

Such a fantastic show. Definitely noticed that she was crying a lot throughout the show. She was giving it to us and you could tell she knew that crowd was giving it right back to her...at first, looking around I thought it was going to be a quiet, dead show, but da**! Didn't she say it was sold out!?

Fantastic night - blurry (and I was completely sober), but a phenomenal first show for me.

The time of the show is 2 hours now right?

It was about that, yeah. IIRC she got on stage at about 8:45 and it was over around 10:40.

tbh, lots of people fainted at most of the shows I had GA for....it gets so damn hot down there when you are bouncing around all the time. ;)

Yes, I went to 13. lol I'm sad that it's over, but I feel kind of optimistic after last nights show, which is good. I'm hoping I don;t get post artrave depression when I get home.

Yeah I wasn;t sure how the show was gonna be either because the queues for GA didn't seem all that big so I was hoping it wasn;t gonna be dead, but then I saw a pic of the crowd this morning and I was like "holy sh*t GA was packed!"I mean I couldn't tell from the front how far the people went back coz I'm not all that tall. hehe Yeah she did ry a few times during the show...I'd finally calmed down at the end of Gypsdy, then I saw her crying while she was standing there and it set me off again.

It was so much better than I could have expected to be honest.....although I think i'm now screwed for the future coz I'm gonna wanna be front row for all the tours now. haha
