Applause is doing fine and longevity is more important than chart postions. Compare Bad Romance #2 and Born This Way #1( which one was a more successful single) also compare her to other artisit Paparazzi#6 and PSY's Gentleman #5 ( which one was a more successful single) The problem with the btw era wasnt that the songs didnt chart high, it is that they didnt have longevity like the TF +TFM. The other thing we always have to consider is money: everything that she does, from her personal life to music production to travel to shows, interviews, and concerts.... lady gaga is an expensive performance 24/7/365 and the only way she'll be able to maintain this is to have success with the GP. Yes, she can make good music on a shoestring budget; most artists do, but we all know that it wouldn't be the same if this were still Stefani at the bar.
