Just hours after Lady Gaga’s dad proudly boasted on Twitter that Joanne Trattoria had been given a top rating by health inspectors, the Italian eatery was infested with a plague of mice. Diners shrieked in horror as white and grey vermin scuttled about the dining room, roamed over tables and scurried across the patio. At one point, disbelieving guests were pointing in horror and taking pictures on their phones. As my picture shows, Gaga’s furry friends came in through a hole in the wall next to the patio, nibbling on bread. Says my appalled visitor: “It was like a scene from a bad comedy movie – except people were screaming not laughing. The poor waiting staff looked mortified.†The Gagas opened the restaurant in February last year – to a roasting from critics. One complained of ‘“calamari like leather†and “airplane foodâ€. In June, there were further problems when the gaff was downgraded to a B rating by the New York health department. Dad Joe Germanotta went on a Twitter rant, blaming the bad hygiene report on just “one bad potato†in a bin full of vegetables. But after their A was reinstated on Wednesday he tweeted triumphantly: “We’ve got it back. Never give up!†He went on to slag off its critics, saying: “Got its A grade back. funny how that doesn’t get covered. Where’s Mr Potato Head now?†The restaurant is named after Gaga’s aunt Joanne, a painter who died of lupus at 19, whom she calls her “inspirationâ€.
