I've generally found that awards shows can nominate just about anyone they want regardless of restraints. Bon Iver got nominated for best new artist at the Grammys, even though they weren't a new band but because they had only become majorly famous with a breakthrough hit recently, the academy treated them as a new act. A commentator picked up on this and said "perhaps they should re-name the award 'best artist who has just recently come to our attention.'"

I just don't see why they couldn't have nominated her more recent videos instead, like Perro Fiel and Trap. They were hardly any better or worse than the other stuff nominated, so why trot out a 1.5 year old video? And how Becky G didn't get nominated for Mayores is beyond me. That was one of the biggest Latin music videos of last year. Her hotness should have been enough to get her a nomination!
