The bass drum hits at the measures on 1, 2, 3 and 4, the snare hits at 2 and 4. This beat pattern is commonly associated with Disco music and Electronic music, since it's pretty easy to recreate it on a computer without a drum player (but due to it straightforwardness and regularity somewhat fearsome for actual drum players) It roughly looks like this Examples for this beat pattern are: The beat in Applause and the other songs is a teeny tiny bit more complicated and often works as the base for more complex kind of beats in pop music and it's usually associated with a "retro", "throwback" or a 1960's sound when it is employed in pop music. It's more prevelant in other genres and as I have heard considerably easier to handle in a live setting. It doesn't have a particular name in music however.
