Another day, another overreaction :emma:

IKR?!?! this oversensitive people need to look for something useful to do with their lives instead of raging about CINEMA MAKE UP ... or what? we are gonna be mad because Bill Skasgard painted his face white to play Pennywise??? actually the cast of aladdin isn't white (at least any of the protagonists) so maybe Disney wanted to give them a even darker skin so they fit with the production design that's all.

Gaga's intentions were not to mimic a black person's skin tone whatsoever. In the photo you linked she recently was photographed for "V Magazine". It is supposed to be satire and a ploy on the dynamics of a popstar—or what consumers believe a popstar is supposed to appear like: blonde hair, voluptuous eyelashes, a nice tan, etc., it is supposed to be an artistic statement about conforming to society. The finalized results in the editorial are orange—not brown. However, I can understand why to some it is presumed to be racist.

Disney claims they only did it in instances when they needed actors/extra's with "speciality skills" or certain actors for safety reasons. Aka stuntmen.

Did anyone read the articles tho?

A Disney spokesman told BBC Newsbeatthat cast and crew members were "made up to blend in" only in "a handful of instances when it was a matter of specialty skills, safety and control," such as when stunt artists or animal handlers were required.

(...)

Disney have stressed that "more than 400 of the 500 background performers were Indian, Middle Eastern, African, Mediterranean and Asian."

other article:

“Diversity of our cast and background performers was a requirement and only in a handful of instances when it was a matter of specialty skills, safety and control (special effects rigs, stunt performers and handling of animals) were crew made up to blend in.”

The media meltdown was because everyone thought all 500 people were put in "brownface" when only 100 people were put in it, which now caused even more stir because people find it weird they could find 400 actual "brown" people and not 500

of course nobody reads it, they just want to complain lol

I think people just like going on witch hunts for everything :selena:, Disney should have tried harder to hire accurate stunt doubles but I get why they did what they did.

They're background actors. Diversity and equity/SAG laws protect actors of all color. Brown face probably wasn't the best way to go, but they had a quota to fill. And if you live in the desert, even as a Lily White person, your skin will turn dark. I wish people would understand that acting is acting. Trust me, as a performer who weighs in at 250 lbs and looks more like a beast, less like a prince, and sounds like Tinkerbell sprinkled my mouth with Pixie Dust at birth, struggle in this industry is not exclusive to skin color. Also, since we're on the subject of race, why is Will Smith playing the genie? Surely they could have found a Middle Eastern actor/comedian to play the role.

But why do that? Just choose good darker skinned actors. This is ridiculous.

"A Disney spokesman told BBC Newsbeat that cast and crew members were "made up to blend in" only in "a handful of instances when it was a matter of specialty skills, safety and control," such as when stunt artists or animal handlers were required."

they didn't do it for every single actor because they couldnt be bothered getting darker skinned actors, they did it when darker skin actors weren't available in these specialised roles

Where is the outrage now?Where's media?

If black had to whiten up his skin to fit the role Internet and whole world would go crazy, especially if Disney did that.

The world is just unfair tbh

Okay, glad the mess was resolved and it was much smaller than we anticipated. Granted, they could have just looked for people in those specialized roles that are also, I don't know, Brown, but it's not as awful as I thought it was going to be.

THAT SAID, so many of y'all are in here like "oh the SJW's are at it again", "they just want something to complain about"... remember... racism is still a very big issue in the world. I'm not saying y'all don't think that, but be wary of the rhetoric in which you choose to consume, and with which you choose to put out into the world.

3 points in and ready for more

But if people not reading the article and complain immediately you get these kind reactions...
