bumblebee 2,528
Hello, everybody! Today I wanna learn some of your thoughts about Gaga's musical influences. Before we start, this is not intended to be a thread that undermines Gaga's originality and the fresh appeal of her artistry. So, no negativity on this site, thank you. The Fame booklet has the following writing by Gaga: "I would like to thank Andy Warhol, David Bowie, Prince, Madonna and Chanel. I would like to thank New York. I would like to thank Fashion." The reviews of The Fame most often link Gaga's sound with the mix of the three artists she herself mentioned in the booklet. But if you were to choose three music artists that influenced her albums the most, what would these three artists be for her solo stuido albums, and for The Fame Monster (EP)? I can think of a trinity only for Born This Way: Bruce Springsteen, Whitney Houston and Elton John.

Sneaky Oliver 20,096
David Bowie and Madonna are the essence of Gaga tbh. Bowie specially on the The Fame (sounds) and ARTPOP (visuals) eras and Madonna specially on The Fame Monster. I’m on my Legacy Act era
FfFfFfFF 54,014
Gwen Stefani for some ARTPOP tracks and Dancin' in Circles. Christina Aguilera for Just Dance and DWUW. I know they are not quite on the same level as the previous mentioned artists here. But I've seen a lot of reviews comparing these songs with them. Also Spechless is very Queen-influenced,Marry The Night is Bon Jovi-inspired, Just Another Day is The Beatles-inspired so she has a lot of rock influences. Also Dance In The Dark is Depeche Mode-inspired and her gothic-industrial aesthetic for TFM is somehow influenced by them specifically according to an article I've read. And Britney Spears for TF. Chromatislaps 34,560
TF: David Bowie (BDR ,The Fame, Brown Eyes), Gwen Stefani (Summerboy, Vanity, Filty Pop), Eurythmics (Just Dance, Poker Face, Money Honey), Pet Shop Boys (Eh, Eh), Madonna (BDR), T-Pain (Starstruck), Michael Jackson (Paper Gangsta...that instrumental gives me MJ vibes for some reason...must be the heavy kickdrum/snare that drives the song, and the supercatchy piano melody line) RedOne (Poker Face, Just Dance, Paper Gangsta, Money Honey) TFM: Michael Jackson (Bad Romance, but only slight influences...mostly song structure wise), Grace Jones (DITD), Madonna (DITD) Ace Of Base (Alejandro), Bruce Springsteen (Speechless) In overall most of the influences are very subtle, tbh this is Gaga's most authentic sounding album together with the Born This Way album in terms of uniqueness. RedOne (Bad Romance, Monster, SHICD & Alejandro) BTW: Whitney Houston (MTN, FOHL), Edit Piaf (Americano), Suzanne Vega (HML), Queen (Yoü and I, The Queen), Bruce Springsteen (TEOG, Hair, The Queen & Highway Unicorn), Madonna (BTW, Black Jesus - Amen Fashion & Electric Chapel). Michael Jackson (Bad Kids...the intro was inspired by MJ's They Don't Care About Us), Daft Punk (Bloody Mary) RedOne (Judas & Scheisse) on the BTW album, the songs that are "truly" Gaga's own signature are: Scheisse, Judas & Government Hooker ARTPOP: Infected Mushrooms (Aura) Zedd (GUY, Donatella & Aura, Swine....yes Swine sounds more like a Zedd song than a DJWS song) Geschaffelstein (Venus) Zombie Zombie (Venus) Sun Ra (Venus) Michael Jackson (Venus, DWUW...both their song structures and rhytmic vocals remind me of MJ's songs) Bruce Springsteen (Dope) Madeon (Gypsy, Venus & MJH) Anjulie (Donatella ) Daft Punk (Fashion!) David Bowie (Fashion!) Madonna (Fashion!, ARTPOP) Chic (Fashion!) Michael Jackson (MANiCURE...this song sounds instrumentally a lot like Beat It for some reason, and also has strong rhythmic adlibs similar to MJ adlibs) Prince (Sexxx Dreams....it sounds like a song Prince could have penned it...it sort of reminds me of his song Kiss a bit) Songs that sound like the signature Gaga sound people are familiar with, are: Applause, Aura, Brooklyn Nights, Gypsy, Venus & Dope Joanne: Stevie Nicks (Diamond Heart, Joanne) Amy Winehouse (A-Yo) Bruce Springsteen (Diamond Heart & Perfect Illusion) Shania Twain (John Wayne, A-Yo) Tame Impala (Perfect Illusion) Mark Ronson (The Joanne album) Randy Newman (Just Another Day)....I mean listen to this...and don't say you don't hear the similarities: Spoiler Chic (Perfect Illusion) Fleetwood Mac (Sinner's Prayer) Luis Fonsi (Dancin' In Circles) don't @ me hunties Ace Of Base (Dancin' In Circles) Adele (Million Reasons) Elton John (Million Reasons) Spongebob (Come To Mama) Beachboys (Come To Mama) John Lennon (Angel Down) Florence Welch (Hey Girl) Minnie Ripteron (Hey Girl) the song reminds me slightly of Minnie's Loving You (Is Easy Cause You Are Beautiful)
