ArtyRoberto 650 Report Posted September 12, 2017 (edited) UMM WHAT? MICHAEL JACKSON Janet Jackson Whitney Houston Beyonce Rihanna Yes they might have mainly done music outside of the pop genre, but most of their biggest hits ARE pop music. You can't call Crazy in Love, Only Girl in the World and I Wanna Dance With Somebody RnB only songs, they are pretty much pure pop songs with RnB influences. Plus Michael + Janet Jackson were ALL pop in the 80's and onwards. Edited September 12, 2017 by ArtyRoberto Share
 Facebook Twitter

Illuminati 7,461 Report Posted September 12, 2017 (edited) There were plenty. But many are more interested in doing rap. Halsey is like half black too whether you want to accept it or not Edited September 12, 2017 by Illuminati Share
 Facebook Twitter
jaXXXon 227 Report Posted September 12, 2017 (edited) Ehm, Rihanna and Beyonce are both contemporary pop stars. What else would you call them? Rap stars? Rihanna's music maybe playing with other genres but it's still POP MUSIC. What pop star is doing pure pop? Because even Madonna, Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera have been mixing hip hop and R&B into their music, doesn't make them any less pop. By your logic, Avril Lavigne is a pure rock star, while Taylor is country star, no matter what she's doing now because you seem to ignore the fact that both Beyonce and Rihanna have been pop too. Besides, pop means a mix of genres made into easy and melodic radio songs and it's always been like that. There's literally NEVER been a pure pop star. Even the Backstreet Boys or NSync were heavily influenced by R&B and New Jack Swing. I don't see the point of this thread tbh Edited September 12, 2017 by jaXXXon Share
 Facebook Twitter

While other people experiment with their voice. (yes I know gonna get ALOT of backlash for this comment) you do know that most popular genres that are around today were developed from African-American styles of music right? Black people believe it or not created rock and roll in the 1940s-50s, which then spawned into pop music (that Michael Jackson, a black artist, solidified forever). Of course hip-hop, the most popular genre in america was invented by black people too. even country was originated from old types of soul/gospel music that was created by black people. 1 1 Share
 Facebook Twitter
Monster2015 913 Report Posted September 13, 2017 (edited) Aside from Rihanna and The Weeknd, I agree with you that black artists don't appear in CURRENT pop music. Edit: Above comment is 100% correct. Also, many of the songs on the radio have black influences. Ugh I hate making everything about race Edited September 13, 2017 by Monster2015 1 Share
 Facebook Twitter
