A lot of things. Streaming is dominated by men. Radio is influenced by streaming sites. So if radio don't play women as much as they play men, nothing is going to change.

Plus, the cultural environment. USA is synonyms of toxic masculinity right now.

It has nothing to do with women making worse music or something. That's simply not true and just an excuse.

It is totally unfair that women have to work that much harder for recognition. Not to mention, I don't like generic EDM blahfest #3399 or songs lacking intrigue and rhythm (Despacito says hi)

Damn that's just been too long.  Just wish streaming services would push solo female songs.  Songs like Perfect Places have what it takes to be #1.

Spotify is one of the reasons. For example, urban is the most popular genre in the US. Urban is 100% dominated by men and urban dominates Spotify. That influences people and what they listen to.

It's a chain. There are studies about it.

if urban is the most popular genre why r there more stations on radio with pop music then urban music??

My city has 2 stations that play urban music and like 6 pop radio stations

Edit: I guess it is hip hop look at this article
