I'm glad they got to film Catherine Coulson (Log Lady) before she passed away.

Interesting to see Matthew Lillard show up, he looks so old now, which makes me feel old because I remember him being in so many teen comedies as a kid.

Even though I missed Julee Cruise, I liked the addition of the Chromatics. They were sublime.

Overall, I loved it. I like the direction they're going in. This is an unpopular opinion, but I was afraid they were going to spend a lot of time on the ~quirk~ of the series, but I enjoyed that they kept the action moving, along with that eerie sense of dread. I feel like he went more in a surreal, dark, Fire Walk with Me direction rather than a straight up Twin Peaks redux.

Those NYC scenes were creepy. I wonder who's behind the whole glass box situation, and what was with that alien looking figure.

Where can I watch all the previous material?

It really depends on where you're located. For examples - (besides owning the DVD) I can watch it on AmazonPrime and SkyEntertainment. In other countries it is also on Netflix (USA, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Swiss, Netherlands...).

I just started watching season 2. I read that all you need to watch USB episodes 1-9, 20-22 tho so I might skip those 11 episodes in between.

I can see where the people who say this are coming from, though I don't think it's an official statement. And I would most definetely add the feature film "Twin Peaks- Fire walk with me" to the list of maybe mandatory viewing. If I'm totally honest, I don't even know if any watching beforehand is obligatory, as (for all we know) the new season will have a new story. To know the old characters will heighten the experience I guess...

Thanks for posting your thoughts. This makes me even more excited to watch it later. Interesting that you mention "alien-looking-figure" - have you read Mark Frost's "The Secret History of Twin Peaks"? It references UFO-sightings over Twin Peaks, so that's something I asked myself yesterday - if that will come into play.

Wow, I never read that and didn't know that bit about the aliens. Yeah, I wonder how they're going to incorporate all of that with the Black Lodge and the rest of the Twin Peaks mythology.

I look forward to your thoughts after you watch it!

That's confusing...? :oprah:

It should be one Pilot (90 minutes) and 7 episodes (45 minutes each).

It's been quite a ride. I find it hard to collect my thoughts after watching, but what I know is that I liked it up until now. My guess is that this is also due to my expectations for the new season. People who expected a direct continuation with a similiar vibe to the series must be really disappointed. The first two episodes felt more like Mulholland Drive than Twin Peaks. The lack of music, the slow pacing and the setting being outside of Twin Peaks most of the time, are my observations when asking myself why it feels so radically different. Also: The murder of Laura Palmer was the core of the original series. The washed up body is what kicked off multiple storylines and when the killer was finally revealed, the new narratives came from this revelation. This time around there is no central crime, but multiple things happening at multiple places - and we have no idea how they are all connected. And that is what Mulholland Drive was all about, no? All the storylines and characters that initially didn't seem to fit in one pilot episode (later into a feature film).

Catherine Coulsons part was both delightful and sad. She's been outstanding in the first two episodes and I'm (like you) so glad she shot some scenes for the new season.

The NYC scenes were easily a highlight for me. So strange, solidly acted, so well executed. An exciting addition to the Twin Peaks universe. On par with this were the new Lodge scenes for me. I've seen the visual effects hardly criticized online, but I found them very suiting to the surreal imagery in general. The new appearance of the "Man from another Place" was awesome to me.

Like you, until now I like the direction they're going with the new season. A nostalgic season would not have been an option. And if it continues to deliver scenes like the one where Chromatics are playing in the Roadhouse - I'm all here for it. That gave me goosebumps!

Just one thing... Where is Audrey?! :neyde:

IKR? I hope she gets some big scenes.

I completely agree about it feeling more like Mullholland Drive. It definitely feels more like a straight up David Lynch film.

This new one seemed more like the original series. Lots of weird, funny moments (the casino and suburban bits, "It's not about the bunny....is it about the bunny? No. It's not about the bunny" The Michael Cera thing was absurd and felt like it went on forever though. :deadbanana:

I was really intrigued by the beginning. At first I thought the blind woman might have been Josie, but I'm not seeing the actress credited anywhere, so I guess it wasn't.

Loved seeing Denise. She's done so well for herself.

Pleasantly surprised to see Naomi Watts. It also makes wonder when Laura Dern and Amanda Seyfried are going to pop up. Speaking of name actresses, I was surprised to see Jennifer Jason Leigh in such a small role so far. Maybe she'll turn up again?

I have a feeling Audrey is definitely in the next one (I can't think of anyone else they would be referring to with "I know where she drinks.").

Anyway, that episode was a ride. Not as intense as last weeks, but still good. That drugged out woman in that house repeating 1-1-9 really creeped me out. I wonder if this is some sort of clue to what is going on, or just something random.
