I dunno  with highly political events or major humanitarian efforts etc...  Usually songs that are either well known are sung, or if you sing a new one its gotta be relevant to the issue  if you sing a random new single few people know its usually taken as that your taking advantage of an important event for personal gain  Im not saying its fair judgement.
