In pop music, the mixer is one of the singlemost important people in the process of creating studio tracks. The mixer is, essentially, one of the last people to get their hands on the track before it goes on the album. It's their job to take all the various elements of the studio recording and set the levels just right... as well as (and most importantly) to do the "fine tuning" of the different recorded tracks into the perfect, tightly-edited "song" you hear on an album. This is why rough demos sound "rough." They haven't been mixed yet. To put it in modern day terms, most of today's EDM DJ's are just that --- mixers. They take finished songs and adjust all the audio levels and timing of samples to make everything blend together seamlessly and, ultimately, POP.
