Yesterday our super sexy gothic fairy looked exquisite in the silk mesh bodysuit with embroidered Chantilly lace, and crystal and jet beading. Both the mesh second skin and her sheer silk organza cape with embroidered hood were created exclusively for her for this occasion by Giorgio Armani.

“American Idol is a real modern phenomenon that has captured the public’s imagination and delivers great drama…” said Mr. Armani.

“It is fitting then that the show is to host another modern phenomenon who has proved to be fascinating, and whose every appearance is a piece of theatre: Lady Gaga”.

For Giorgio Armani, who dressed our girl for the Grammy Awards, who created a part of Gaga’s ever growing Monster Ball Tour costumes collection, whose tailor made suit Gaga walked the Time’s Most Influential People “hall of fame” in, and who also designed the crystal incrusted bodysuit Momma Monster performed during the the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in,…

… this has been “a very exciting project”.

“To complement the spirit of Lady Gaga herself, I have let my imagination run free, and the outfit I have created for her for American Idol is pure fantasy”.

… she wore a stunning barely there just body & lace bodysuit and matching lace embellished shoes. Everything created by Alex Noble as “a delicate payment of respects to the late great McQueen”.

When I saw it, it felt like travelling back in time in Alexander McQueen‘s archive to 1996…

I said it already, I know, but I don’t mind repeating myself. What I love about Gaga is she makes you think while constantly surprising and maintaining you entertained the way no other artist does. Inspired by many. Inspiration for so many more.

Gaga loves capes and ankle boots and so do a bunch of you who asked me to find some for you. Our first Boys, Boys, Boooys! is inspired in one of Gaga’s latest looks.

I got many e-mails about the black vinyl cape inspired by Gothic 19th century horror created by OLIMA for Lady Gaga’s American Music Awards appearance. You loved it so much. And so did Gaga because on top of including the piece to her tour costume collection, she asked Oscar O Lima to create something more for her.

“This time I felt I had more time so it was definitely an opportunity for me to create something more intricate. I started with the black vinyl strip cape that was completely inspired by the Lady herself…”

“… I noticed the cape caught light beautifully so in my head hundreds of strips would catch a million more lights. The cape took me about a week to create and I was designing it in my head as I was making it”.

A week later Oscar received a request from Nicola Formichetti to make a complete bone look inspired by our girl’s Haus of Gaga Skeleton headwear. And 48 hour later this spectacular Bone Pleather Skeleton dress “was born”.

“I was still very much fascinated by the detail of the shoulders I had given the black cape so I decided to use a similar one on this jacket dress and just mold the strips into ribs and a spine on a sculpted bodice”.

… is by Oscar O Lima – the man behind OLIMA brand (huge thanks to Brendan for helping me ID this marvel!).

I “met” him a while ago. And I feel like if our first get together wasn’t only virtual, we’d be still sitting “there” and talking.

The piece was constructed during one sleepless night. The night before the AMA’s! And I’m one very lucky lady because Oscar shared with me a sketch of the monster cape he crafted “with love, some helping hands, sweat and caffeine”.

He was inspired by Gothic 19th century horror and “wanted to keep within the Bad Romance theme implementing unorthodox sewing details around the collar and used a familiar texture to give a true horror finesse”.

The piece belongs to his “The Mothers Instinct” collection based on his mother’s and nan’s lifes.

“They are both very strong Italian women, they have had very interesting and emotional lifes, which I was inspired by all my life, so it came very naturally to me to create a collection from that”.

The cape is resembling a protection shield which he’s sure “Gaga doesn’t need as she comes across as very confidant and comfortable with herself. But I am happy to see another strong woman who has original Italian roots to be wearing my garments with such pride”.

After I heard him saying the piece is actually called “The Floral Protection Shield”, I immediately asked why “floral”.

Raffaele explained me that the cape bottom is “created through 18 pattern pieces, which are cut in petall shapes”.

I’m sure those who loved the piece, love it even more now.

When I asked for the first three words that come to his mind instantly after hearing “Lady Gaga style”, he told me “Ambitious, Convincing and Brave”.

And what is his favourite Lady Gaga look? “The one with my cape of course … No, I really like when she wears stuff like Bruno Pieters, Margiela and all the young London crowd!!!”

Raffaele promised to keep us posted on his next collections and projects. And we’ll be impatiently waiting.
