My RIP file, as you probably know, contains quite a bunch of outfits that remain mystery. I believe this dress is one of those awes that have never ever been properly identified. Until today. After hours and hours of virtual travelling from here to there (virtual jet lags included), I can tell you more about this piece of art and share with you a couple of photos I was kindly sent for you.
The black wonder with the best Swarovski crystals studded “fins”…
… is “Hot Fish” dress created by Lin Jing.
Lin is Beijing based artist and ceramicist, owner of FEI Space Gallery, whose works you can spot on décor rather than on fashion magazine pages. She designed this couture piece for Swarovski Runway Rocks barrier-breaking collection of one-of-a-kind jewels commissioned especially for the Swarovski shows by carefully chosen and invited artists and designers.
Lin Jing was one of the artist who were asked to create her “ultimate vision of jewellery for the catwalk. A couture jewel that would perfectly capture the mood of the moment, fusing fashion, jewellery and body ornamentation, being Swarovski crystal the hero of the creation, showing the endless posibilities of crystal as an innovative material”.
This extraordinary jewellery as you’ve never seen it before dress was presented at Swarovski conceptual show in Moscow in 2007 and Mumbai the year after.
Please give it all up for the Hot Fish by Lin Jing!
Maybe they were more (and if so make sure you let me know please) pieces from Swarovski Runway Rocks collection our girl wore. In my files there are two. “Hot Fish” by Lin Jing and “Minerva” neck brace by Betony Vernon seen on Swarovski Runway Rocks in LA in 2007, styled by my beloved Patricia Field. Make up Billy Brasfield – a man I would love to sip my favourite red tea with one day (if you ever get my tweet “Who is the woman in my mirror? Only Billy B knows…”, be happy for me).
The massive moulded metal Swarovski crystals encrusted neck brace – one of the Paparazzi video “stars”…
… is the one I’m talking about. “The Minerva forces the chin upwards which is a sign of self-confidence and ensures that the wearer stands tall and straight. The Red Cross, a symbol of help, first-aid and rescue, makes reference to a medical neck brace, and the fact that its wearer would change from a victim to a survivor“.
How fabulously the idea behind the piece fits the Paparazzi story, doesn’t it? Betony said this in LA and I can not agree more: “The Minerva is a dream piece. She who wears it, is a goddess”.
