The black vinyl cape Gagita wore backstage…
… is by Oscar O Lima – the man behind OLIMA brand (huge thanks to Brendan for helping me ID this marvel!).
I “met” him a while ago. And I feel like if our first get together wasn’t only virtual, we’d be still sitting “there” and talking.
The piece was constructed during one sleepless night. The night before the AMA’s! And I’m one very lucky lady because Oscar shared with me a sketch of the monster cape he crafted “with love, some helping hands, sweat and caffeine”.
He was inspired by Gothic 19th century horror and “wanted to keep within the Bad Romance theme implementing unorthodox sewing details around the collar and used a familiar texture to give a true horror finesse”.

this must be the one from the fame monster cover…or it’s like 99% the same xD
the cape was supposed to have something to do with the one in the albulm cover. this one is completely different .
It looks EXACTLY the same down to the collar and the armholes tho!
It is not the same cape, first of all there are stitched details around the collar and shoulders that are not on the cover of Fame Monster. And if you look at the cover of Fame Monster, the cape on the cover is latex and the one at the AMAs is vinyl. There is also a difference in collar fit, the one on the cover is tapered while the one at the AMAs is a fuller and less tapered collar. The proof is in the details. I am sure Lady gaga’s representative specified certain aspects of the cape that was needed to fit her image, and the Olima brand had to meet those specifications. It was the brand’s responsibility to take those specifications and elaborate on them… I think Lady Gaga would have worn the same cape if she wanted too… but she opted for a new interpenetration. I personally thinks it is brilliant… enough said!

Olima jacket was finished the night before AMA Show so even thought the two jackets were exactly the same – which they are not, as you rightly pointed above – no way this vinyl awe could make it to the cover.
