For the press conference in Manila back in August, Lady Gaga was wearing this gorgeous leather jacket detailed with golden corset.
When I saw it I thought it was Alexander McQueen. And had another two names in mind… But I was wrong.
I didn’t know her until last week and this time had to travel to Holland to find the magic hands behind Lady Gaga’s cream leather marvel (if you’ll ever read this, thank you Lady Gaga and Nicola Formichetti for introducing new designers all the time. You are doing such a terriffic job!).
The piece is from her Fall/Winter 2009 “Mummification” collection presented during the Amsterdam International Fashion Week.
You have to visit her site to see the whole collection inspired in the macabre Egyptian ritual. In the idea that life is an illusion and in death people could create their own reality. You’ll discover her very own version of ancient wrapping techniques. And can go through all her previous collections as well.
I’m still drooling. For me each of her creations is an extraordinary and highly aesthetical avant-garde piece of art. Standing ovations from FASHION to Iris van Herpen.
